He said, “I know I’ve got a higher purpose…there’s just one problem.”

Hey,  (the picture will make more sense at the end)

From time to time you will read one of my newsletters and think I’m writing about you.  No, I don’t mean “Well, that could have been me in that story.”

I mean, the story IS your story.

This is one of those and my man, “Adam”, will see it clearly enough.  I’m telling part of his story to inspire others, just as he inspires me.

We just started working together and he’s an amazing dude - spiritual, confident, fearless, entrepreneurial, smart, athletic, loving, and devoted.

He told me he felt he had a higher purpose.  Something is gnawing at him that tells him he must be doing something bigger in his life.  He has a gift and he wants to use it.

He wants to be strong leader of men.  There’s one problem, though.  And he thinks it’s ironic.

His marriage has been on shaky ground for a while now and he knows he owns a large part of it.  He wonders, “How can I be a leader of men when I can’t even get my own house in order?”

Answer:  He is ALREADY a leader of men because he has accepted responsibility for getting his own house in order.  THIS is what leadership is.  It’s demonstrating your commitment to higher expectations of yourself and turning them into actions.

Leadership is showing our sons, daughters, friends, and family how a person can make a choice for better thoughts, words, and actions.   Leadership is inspiring others - especially those we love.

This is exactly what Adam is doing.  After our FIRST call he says he’s feeling excited about this journey.  Following our session, he had his first really close, loving conversation with his wife in ages.  He said, “I’m finally getting it.”  He learned the first step in inspiring a woman to trust him.

Just because we don’t have it all figured out yet doesn’t mean we can’t be leaders.  Leaders are people who are willing to keep learning and guiding those who are just a step behind.

Leaders are people who know there is no end to their own growth and learning.  And they pursue those who are one step ahead.

Leaders are those who face challenges with confidence that they can and will figure it out.

They are persistent.  They know they will fail and learn from it.  They know with effort and humility they will “finally get it”.

YOU are a leader – just like Adam.  You inspire me – just like Adam and I SO appreciate you for that.

Keep reading, keep growing, and keep sharing your gift.

Most of us are on the “2nd Half of the Ride” in this life.  Giving your gift is what makes it worth it.

Oh, and maybe this too.  I saw it in a shop the other day in Fort Collins.

“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

With tons of love and respect,
Steve
