Why Your Dog is Easier to Love Than Your Wife

Hey brother,

These are my dogs, Jace and Tate.

They have a flawless track record of seeing me as the most important person in the world. They worship me. They respect me. And I choose to believe when they think about me (if they actually think about me), they have nothing but adoring, kind and loving thoughts...no matter what I've said or done to them. And I like that about them. A LOT.

While they have occassionally disappointed me...they will never break my heart. They will never intentionally hurt me emotionally or abandon me. And I consistently give them the ultimate level of daily appreciation, high regard and loving benefit of the doubt - even if they puke on the new carpet.

This is why your dog is easier to love than your wife.

You're a really smart guy. In know you already see where this is going.

And, like me, you may have days where you just wish your sweetheart was more like your dog. Easy. Soft. Agreeable. And always ready for cuddling and petting...if ya know what I mean.

But that's not how human relationships work. They are messier.

We are moody, unpredictable and over-reactive. Our thinking quickly becomes negative, judgmental and fearful. We make assumptions that aren't fair or true. And we project our own fear and shame in ways we don't even realize.

It's no wonder we connect more easily with dogs. They don't do any of that shit. They consistently assume the best in us. And we want to live up to that reputation!

Meet Sage. She's not a dog.

She is a different breed.

She was born perfect. Beautiful, graceful and happy.

As she grew up and matured, the people around her began to see her as a moody, unpredictable and over-reactive animal. She became scared and "judgmental" for ridiculous reasons.

And her handlers began to label her as uncooperative, rebellious, unwilling and unsafe.

This is me riding Sage on the trail.

I spent 2 hours on the ground with her having a two-way conversation. It's called "ground work".

In that time she learned to soften. She learned to relax. And she learned to TRUST my intention toward her.

We practiced moving together, picking up all four feet and gently touching vulnerable places most horses don't want you touching.

In other words, we CONNECTED. And she slowly relaxed and joined up with me as her trusted leader.

That's what every man did at the last Ranch Retreat in Loveland, Colorado.

It's the most amazing feeling to learn the magic of moving from distrust to connection...from fear to love.

And guess what?

When all of us returned to our "home corral", everything seemed a lot easier.

Communication becomes more trusting. Kindness is the leading energy. Affection becomes easy and natural again.
